Dota 2 Scandal: Chinese Teams Accused of Match-Fixing

Dota 2 Scandal

Fresh off the heels of Team Spirit’s victory at The International 2023 (TI12), Dota 2 plunges into controversy. Three famous Chinese teams, namely Team Bright, Team Disillusion, and Holy Grail, find themselves entangled in allegations of “322” match-fixing. This Dota 2 scandal has sent shockwaves through the esports community. It came up through accusations made by JieChuGe, a huge figure in China’s Dota 2 scene.

Dota 2 Scandal on Match-Fixing

JieChuGe’s credibility stems from prior instances where he played a crucial role in disqualifying 46 players from popular teams like EHOME and Knights due to similar misconduct earlier in 2023.

His latest investigation involves evidence against Holy Grail. This includes released in-game voice comms capturing talks of match-fixing strategies during TI12 qualifiers. The expose also involves discussions among players outlining plans in case they are caught.

Allegations extend beyond Holy Grail, indicating possible involvement of Team Disillusion and Team Bright in the “322” affair. JieChuGe has provided evidence to organizations like Perfect World, ESL, and Valve. As of now, no official statements have been made.

Notably, decreased representation of Chinese teams at TI, from five teams at TI10 to only two at TI12, prompts speculation about issues within the esports system in the region.

Renowned player Chalice has talked about systemic flaws and a lack of intervention from governing bodies like Perfect World and Valve.

The issues of match-fixing looms large over Dota 2 as allegations swirl around significant Chinese teams. With the focus on the authorities’ response, the implications for the esports world, particularly in China, remain uncertain.
