Malaysia’s latest Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) host, Rose Gaming, caused quite a stir in the esports world with her unexpected Tagalog interview.
Fans were in for a treat when she posed a question in fluent Tagalog to the Filipino coach, Steve “Dale” Vitug of HomeBois, after their triumph over Red Giant Esports.
The internet was hyped with the exchange:
Rose: “Coach Dale, anong pakiramdan na panalo kayo sa unang laban ‘nyo?” (Coach Dale, how do you feel after winning your first match?)
Dale was visibly surprised and replied, “Mas nagulat ako sa Tagalog mo.” (I am more shocked with your Tagalog.)

Rose’s Multicultural Background
Born to a Filipino mother and Singaporean father, Rose was nurtured in the cultural richness of Malaysia. Her multicultural background is evident in her linguistic prowess. She is fluent in English, Tagalog, and Bahasa Melayu.
The secret behind Rose Gaming’s fluency is her mother. Growing up, her mother frequently spoke to her in Tagalog. Additionally, Rose attributes Filipino TV shows and songs for enhancing her command of the language.
Being raised in Malaysia, a multicultural hub, Rose didn’t face challenges due to her mixed heritage. On the contrary, her unique background emerged as a boon in the esports arena. She believes that her multilingual abilities ensure smooth communication with international players, ensuring their views are understood and conveyed without a hitch.
Gratitude to the Filipino Community
Though there’s a buzz among Filipino fans wanting her to take up hosting in MPL Philippines, Rose is clear on where she wants to be.
She expressed her admiration for MPL PH’s current host, Mara Aquino. She said, “I wouldn’t want to host for MPL PH as we already have Mara, The Queen herself there.”
Emphasiaing her desire to make international players feel comfortable, she said, “I also enjoy hosting for MPL MY and in helping our imports feel more at home.”
Discussing the dynamics of the gaming communities, Rose noted that while the Philippines is highly competitive, Malaysia’s scene is evolving, blending competition with entertainment.
However, the lure of the upcoming M5 World Championship in the Philippines this December isn’t lost on her. She’s eager to possibly host the global event, while also looking forward to exploring her maternal homeland.
Rose Gaming is also an online streamer, and is overwhelmed by the affection and support from the Filipino community. Her heartfelt message:
Maraming salamat po (Thank you so much) for all the support you have given me, the players and the league in general. I would have never expected this kind of support on my first day in MPL yet here we are. I hope to meet you guys very soon!
