Tencent Introduces PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) for 2024

PUBG Mobile Global Open

Tencent’s PUBG Mobile Esports is set to broaden its horizons with the announcement of the PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO). This is a new global event slated for the first half of 2024.

Unveiled during the PUBG Mobile Esports 2024 plans conference, this event aims to address geographical limitations in hosting global events, particularly in regions like Brazil.

What is PMGO?

The PMGO shows an important addition to PUBG Mobile’s 2024 esports roadmap. PUBG Mobile’s global esports director, James Yang, talked about the importance of such a tournament. He emphasizes how time zone differences hinder certain regions, notably Brazil. This prevents them from hosting global events. The current initiative aims to bridge the gap, with the first season set to take place in Brazil.

Qualification Process

Tencent has restructured its esports season for 2024. It has replaced PMPLs with PUBG Mobile Super Leagues (PMSL) across four global regions. While PMSL will generally feature partnered teams, the PMGO opens avenues for wider participation. Teams can qualify for the Brazil event through three routes:

  • Invited Teams: Top-performing teams from previous events receive direct invitations.
  • Partnered Teams: Teams involved in PMSL will secure opportunities to compete in PMGO.
  • Local Qualifiers: Open qualifiers will allow new teams to compete for spots on PUBG Mobile’s grand stage.

Impact on PUBG Mobile Esports

As PUBG Mobile Esports continues its 5 year journey, Tencent’s focus on expanding the competitive scene through increased participation of partnered teams is evident. The PMGO represents an inclusive platform, offering new and emerging teams a chance to compete worldwide. This aims to foster growth and diversity within the esports ecosystem.

Ahead of PMGO’s debut, PUBG Mobile enthusiasts will be waiting for the PMGC 2023 Grand Finals scheduled in Turkey from December 8 to 10. In the event, 16 top-tier teams will battle for the prestigious title of world champions and a share of the prize pool.
